Florentine Opera tackles baroque doubleheader
07.05.11
The Florentine Opera Associates will open a double-weekend double bill of two great English baroque operas in the Marcus Forefront's Vogel Hall beginning May 13, presenting John Expand's "Venus & Adonis" and Henry Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas. Opera can be great without being splendid. A jewelry analogy may help give a feel for the scale of these baroque operas, each of which will run about 50 minutes. Intend of a grand opera masterpiece such as Verdi's "Aida" as a large, jeweled clasp.
